How to Install DaVinci Resolve Templates (.drfx Files)

This guide explains how to install DaVinci Resolve templates provided in the .drfx format.

The installation process is quick and typically takes less than a minute.

Step 1: Download and Extract the Template

After completing your purchase or downloading a free template:

  • Download the template package (usually provided as a .zip file).
  • Locate the downloaded file on your computer.
  • Extract or unzip the file.
  • Inside the extracted folder, locate the main installation file with the .drfx extension.
  • Review the included README file (if provided) for any template-specific notes.

Step 2: Install Required Fonts (If Included)

Some templates, especially titles, may include custom fonts to match the preview design.

If font files (.ttf or .otf) are included in the package, install them before installing the template.

If the required font is already installed on your system, you may skip this step.

Windows

  • Right-click the font file.
  • Click Install or Install for all users.
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve after installation.

You may also double-click the font file and press the Install button in the preview window.

macOS

  • Double-click the font file.
  • Font Book will open automatically.
  • Click Install Font.
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve after installation.

Linux

Font installation may vary depending on your distribution. In most cases:

  • Copy the font file into your local fonts directory: ~/.local/share/fonts/
  • Create the folder if it does not exist.
  • Refresh the font cache using: fc-cache -f -v
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve.

If you are unsure how to install fonts on your Linux distribution, consult your system documentation.

Step 3: Install the Template

  • Double-click the .drfx file.
  • DaVinci Resolve will open an installation window.
  • Click Install.
  • If updating an older version, click Overwrite when prompted.

The template will now be added to your Effects Library.

Step 4: Restart and Locate the Template

For best results, restart DaVinci Resolve after installation.

To locate your template:

  • Open the Edit page.
  • Open the Effects Library panel.
  • Navigate to the appropriate category:
    • Effects: Toolbox → Effects → DvBlend
    • Titles: Toolbox → Titles → DvBlend
    • Video Transitions: Toolbox → Video Transitions → DvBlend
    • Generators: Toolbox → Generators → DvBlend

If unsure, use the search bar inside the Effects Library and type the template name.

Updating an Existing Template

If you download an updated version:

  • Double-click the new .drfx file.
  • Click Overwrite when prompted.
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve.

The updated version will replace the previous one.

Troubleshooting

If the template does not appear:

  • Ensure you installed the correct .drfx file.
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve.
  • Confirm you are checking the correct Effects category.
  • Verify required fonts were installed.
  • Use the search bar to locate the template by name.

If the issue persists, contact support@dvblend.com and include:

  • Your order number
  • Template name
  • Your DaVinci Resolve version
  • Your operating system

Compatibility

If a template requires a Studio-only feature, this will be clearly mentioned before purchase.
